Embark on an unforgettable adventure to Mount Tarn, a destination that combines history, nature, and breathtaking panoramic views. This trek is perfect for exploration and biodiversity enthusiasts, following the historic route charted by Charles Darwin during his expedition aboard the HMS Beagle in 1834.
The tour begins with transportation from Punta Arenas to the starting point of the trek, where our guide will give you a brief introduction about the area’s historical significance and unique natural environment.
The hike starts through a native sub-Antarctic forest, home to unique flora such as lenga, ñire, and coigüe trees, as well as local fauna, including birds like the Magellanic woodpecker and rayadito. As you ascend trails surrounded by peat bogs and crystal-clear streams, the fresh air and silence of the wilderness will immerse you in the magic of this pristine environment.
The second part of the hike involves a steeper climb to the summit, requiring more physical effort. Upon reaching the top of Mount Tarn, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the Strait of Magellan, Dawson Island, and Brunswick Peninsula. This is the perfect spot for photos, a well-deserved break, and a moment to reflect on the vastness of Patagonia.
After some time at the summit to explore and admire the landscape, we’ll begin the descent along the same trail to the starting point. During the return, you’ll gain a new perspective of the surroundings and may notice details you missed during the ascent.
Once the trek is complete, we’ll gather at the transport that will take you back to Punta Arenas, where this day filled with adventure, history, and unspoiled nature will come to an end.
A unique journey that blends physical challenge, connection with the natural environment, and the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of one of history’s most notable explorers, Charles Darwin. Dare to conquer Mount Tarn!
